On behalf of the Alabama Association of School Psychologists (AASP), we would like to welcome you to our web site. AASP is an association of both school psychologists and psychometrists. School psychometrists have a masters degree and state certification in psychometry. School psychologists have an educational specialist or doctoral degree and both state and national certification.

Many school psychologists and psychometrists are employed by public or private elementary and secondary schools. Others are employed in public and private mental health clinics. Those with state licensure may have a private practice. School psychologists and psychometrists also serve in various supervisory positions in education or are employed in a variety of training positions.

Employment as a school psychologist/psychometrist is usually related to conducting individual psycho-educational evaluations as defined by federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act legislation. Many school psychologists and psychometrists also serve on schoolwide Building Based Student Support teams, Multidisciplinary Eligibility Determination Committees, and Individual Educational Program teams.

The purpose of AASP is to serve the mental health and educational needs of all children and youth in Alabama . AASP focuses on sponsoring professional development opportunities both in state and in collaboration with similar state organizations in Mississippi and Tennessee . AASP also serves as an informant to the public about the services and practice of psychology in the schools, and strives to advance the professional standards of school psychology/psychometry. AASP is an affiliate of the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP).

If you would like to find out more about the services of school psychologists/psychometrists in your area, please contact an AASP officer or view the regional map and contact a regional representative.
